She is professor of biochemistry. Her research activity is focused on metabolomics sciences through the use of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). She was involved in the study of cerebral cancer pathologies and the gastrointestinal system cancer diseases. Recently, she has focused her attention on skin diseases (in particular those defined as non-melanoma skin cancer) to the study of tissues and bio-fluids and also to diseases linked to behavioural disorders due to food. Metabolomics is a science that allows us to evaluate metabolic changes even when histological analyses do not detect cellular alterations. Even after a decade, these residues persist in the basin&#8217;s soils and sediments. Although traditional environmental risk assessments provide important insights, their reliance on enrichment indices and exchangeable fractions fails to measure mobility dynamics in complex systems.<\/p>\n<p>Using the DRB disaster as a case study, we explore how diffusion rates govern the transport of Potentially Toxic Elements (PTE) from the tailings sludge to the underlying soil profiles. By determining the diffusion coefficients (D), mobilization is analyzed from a kinetic perspective, allowing us to simulate the migration of contaminants such as arsenic (As), lead (Pb), chromium (Cr), and nickel (Ni) over decades. The discussion addresses integrating this mathematical model with the physicochemical properties of the medium \u2014 such as pH, texture, organic matter content, and ionic charge \u2014 to predict subsurface contamination.<\/p>\n<p>The experimental results showed D values ranging from 3.82\u00b10.65\u00d710<sup>-12<\/sup>\u00a0m<sup>2<\/sup>.s<sup>-1<\/sup> for Pb to 8.96\u00b12.53\u00d710<sup>-12<\/sup>\u00a0m<sup>2<\/sup>.s<sup>-1<\/sup> for As, evidencing the thermodynamic viability of the migration of these ions from the tailings sludge to the soil subsurface. The analysis of the diffusion profiles indicated distinct behaviors among the contaminants: while Pb and Ni are fitted by simple Gaussian models, As and Cr required a double model. This differentiation suggests the existence of multiphase transport regimes or variations in oxidation states for As and Cr, whereas Pb and Ni exhibited more homogeneous diffusion patterns. Integrating these coefficients into the generation of 3D response surfaces enabled spatiotemporal visualization of the contamination plume, establishing a dynamic diagnostic tool for the management of environmental liabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Biography<br \/>\nDr. Let\u00edcia Alana Bertoldo is a researcher and PhD-level chemist specializing in the development of nanostructured materials for environmental remediation and risk assessment in soil matrices. Energy supply is dominated by biomass, which accounts for over 80% of consumption and hydropower, which contributes 35\u201340% of electricity but is increasingly unreliable due to climate variability. These conditions perpetuate energy poverty, rural\u2013urban disparities and vulnerability to climate shocks. This study examines three strategies\u2014resilience building, diversification and climate-smart rural electrification\u2014as pathways for a sustainable transition. Using a mixed-methods study design combining policy\/document review, stakeholder interviews and household surveys, this study assessed institutional dynamics, project experiences and technology potentials. Findings indicate moderate progress in renewable integration and rural electrification, yet household energy efficiency and large-scale diversification remain limited due to weak policies, financing gaps and technical constraints. Solar, wind, biomass and geothermal resources present vast potential but face high costs, regulatory barriers and skills shortages. Achieving (NDC targets requires coherent policy frameworks, stronger institutions, expanded financing and localized capacity building. The study concludes that strengthening institutional coordination, renewable financing frameworks and climate-resilient infrastructure planning are essential for Tanzania to meet its NDC commitments while expanding equitable energy access.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biography<br \/>\n<\/strong>Prof. Samwel Victor Manyele is a Professor and Registered Professional Engineer (CPE\/Environment) affiliated by the University of Dar es Salaam in Chemical and Process, Mining Engineering and Mineral Processing Engineering. He received his PhD in Canada (2001), after research in Design and Operation of Fluidized Bed Reactors used in Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC). Afterwards he focused his research in solving Energy resources, Energy Efficiency, Climate Change, Resilience to Climate Change and Public Health challenges in Tanzania, inventing the High-Tech Incineration Facility with Air Pollution Control Devices, winning an International Award for the College of Engineering and Technology, research summarized later in 2012, via a Professorial Inaugural Lecture No. 49. Critical reviews of the extant literature reveal notable gaps such as paucity of empirical investigations directly assessing actual EV adoption, underrepresentation of geographically and socioeconomically distinct regions, such as the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, and limited knowledge on how EV adoption could influence environmental behavior. To bridge these gaps, this study investigated the innovative attributes of EVs, alongside psychological and personal determinants influencing consumer adoption in Qatar. It explored how EV adoption contributes to sustaining ecological behavior. Grounded in innovation diffusion and value-belief-norm theories, the research model considers pro-environmental behavior as a key ultimate concept. A quantitative survey was adopted to collect empirical data using a convenience judgmental sample size of 226 real users of EVs in Qatar. Data were analyzed using structured equation modeling (AMOS.22). Biospheric values, ecological worldviews, and EV adoption influence pro-environmental behavior. Sustainable EV adoption, in turn, is impacted by hedonic motivation, relative advantages, and availability of charging stations. Trialability was insignificant to trigger durable EV adoption. This study examined, for the first time, the association of innovation diffusion theory (IDT) with value-belief-norm (VBN) theory to fulfil the global objectives of deploying pro-environmental behavior and eradicating carbon prints. The validated research model offers a novel empirical perspective on key factors driving effective pro-environmental behavior and sustainable EV adoption.
