Dr. Winston Dunn, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Gastroenterology,
Hepatology & Motility at The University of Kansas Medical Center, where he excels in both
clinical practice and innovative research. A recognized leader in hepatology, Dr. Dunn’s
groundbreaking work focuses on the application of machine learning to enhance clinical
decision-making in liver diseases. Dr. Dunn’s significant contributions to hepatology include the development of influential
online calculators designed to predict patient outcomes. His ALCHAIN calculator, which
estimates 90-day mortality for patients with alcohol-associated hepatitis, has been adopted by
clinicians globally, shaping best practices in hepatology. Building on this success, Dr. Dunn
is pioneering a new calculator to diagnose moderate fibrosis or higher in patients with
Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), reducing the need for
invasive liver biopsies and broadening access to effective treatment.
